Paul Spooner - ESR Programme Director
Paul was appointed to the role of ESR Programme Director in November 2011.
Paul joined the NHS in 1992 and before joining the programme, was Finance Manager within the South Yorkshire Strategic Health Authority. Having joined the ESR Programme in 2001, Paul has undertaken roles in solution design, change management and Head of Implementation/Rollout. In January 2009, Paul was appointed to the role of ESR Director of Operations, responsible for ensuring that the ESR solution and service maintains both performance and it's value to the NHS. Indeed, Paul remains committed to supporting the realisation of business benefits that the ESR solution offers to NHS organisations.
Paul is a part-qualified CIMA accountant, Prince 2 Practitioner and in 2005, achieved an MBA from Hull University.
Lee Pacey - Director of Development and Operations
Lee has worked in the NHS since 1994 and held a number of HR roles in Acute, Community and Mental Health settings. He joined the ESR programme in November 2001 and was appointed to his current role as Director of Development and Operations in November 2011. This role is responsible for (in partnership with our IBM partners) the overall ESR footprint with regard to the functional solution and operational stability. This role is also for ensuring that the solution and service continue to be fit for purpose and meets contractual requirements.
Lee graduated from Sheffield Business School in 1992. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
David Booth - Head of Systems Integration
David has been leading the NHS Systems Integration Team since he joined the programme in 2002. Having been responsible during roll out for the delivery of a GL interface to each of the NHS Organisations on ESR, David is now managing the NHS Interface Team which is responsible for many of the interfaces in use on ESR.
Before joining the ESR programme, David worked in the private sector for organisations that supplied payroll and finance services to the NHS. David graduated from Leeds University having studied Data Processing. Both David and his team are working to reduce the volume of duplicate data entry that occurs in the ESR User Community.
Clare Murdoch - Head of Strategic Communications and Engagement
Clare joined the NHS in 1998 and is qualified with the Chartered Institute of Marketing. She has enjoyed many years working as a successful Senior NHS Communicator, heading up Communications & Marketing Teams in both provider and national organisations. Clare joined the ESR Programme Team in July 2009 as the Head of Strategic Communications and Engagement, leading on the development and implementation of the programmes' Communications and Engagement Strategy. Clare is the Programme lead for National and Regional engagement, and is supported by the NHS Account Manager Team.
Clare has previously been member of the Association for Healthcare Communications & Marketing executive committee, where she led on the organisation of the ACHM Annual Conference & Awards and latterly held the post of co-Chair.
Brian Fitzpatrick - Head of Finance and Commercials
Brian gained a BA Hons in Accounting and Finance in 1996 with Liverpool John Moore's University and is a qualified accountant and member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
Brian first joined the NHS in 1998 with University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire (UHCW) as an Assistant accountant and then on to a role as Assistant Divisional Finance Manager.
In 2001, Brian left the UHCW to join the financial services sector as Finance Manager with Liverpool Victoria Friendly Society.
He returned to the NHS temporarily in February 2004 before moving in to the computer games industry in July 2004. From 2007 he held various contract roles before joining the NHS ESR Senior Management Team in early 2009.
As the NHS ESR Head of Finance and Commercials, Brian is responsible for all financial advice and information for the project as well as for the management and evolution of the ESR contract.
