LeAD is a free and engaging e-learning resource to help clinicians develop understanding of their role in contributing to the management and leadership of health care services.
LeAD supports the competences expected of clinicians as described in the Clinical and Medical Competency Frameworks (CLCF and MLCF).
The original MLCF was created by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement (NHSIII) and is supported by the Medical Leadership Curriculum. LeAD covers the knowledge requirements of the curriculum.
The National Leadership Council (NLC) has recognised the work achieved by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and NHSIII in describing the leadership expectations for doctors in clinical settings. The NLC has built on this and, with permission, published similar support material for clinicians across all professions through the Clinical Leadership Competency Framework (CLCF) endorsed by all Chief Officers at the Department of Health. LeAD sessions support the knowledge needed for the CLCF.
LeAD e-learning has been created by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and NHSIII in partnership with e-Learning for Healthcare. Additional sessions have also been created through the support of the NLC to enable LeAD to be applicable to all clinical professions.
